FAQs
Where is the nearest airport?
The nearest international airport is in Liberia, about an hour and twenty minutes away by car.
Do we need a car to get around?
A car is always nice if you want to tour the area. If you do rent a car, make sure to get complete insurance, and review the Costa Rican driving signs before you land. If you prefer, we can organize a driver for you if you want one.
Should I bring cash?
Yes, bring some cash. Not all places accept credit and debit cards. Most places accept U.S. dollars, but it is always best to carry some colones, the national currency, and you’ll get better deals. Some ATMs allow you to withdraw cash in either U.S. dollars or colones. However, the closest ATM is in Tamarindo, half an hour by car.
Can I drink water from the tap?
Yes, the water on site is safe to drink. However, it is very hard (the Nicoya peninsula is famous for its calcium-rich water), so we provide bottled water as well.
Is the area safe?
Yes, Costa Rica is quite a safe place. It isn’t perfect, however, so the usual caution is advised. Watch out for pickpockets and make sure to lock your car and put valuables out of site or, better yet, don’t leave valuables in the car. Our property is fenced and gated, and we have cameras for additional security. Chico, our mascot, provides additional security by just standing there.
What should I bring?
This part of Costa Rica is quite casual, so you don’t need to bring a lot: sunscreen, bathing suit, beach towel, your favourite flipflops, and then anything you will need for the activities you want to do. Occasionally, the evenings may be cool, so bring a lightweight sweater. If you’re planning a trip into the interior or the mountains, you will need warmer clothes as well.
What kind of food is available?
Our villas have fully-equipped kitchens, so feel free to cook. If you need help getting groceries, we’ll be delighted to assist. The area features wonderful restaurants, so there’s no need to eat in. You can try out “comida típica,” regular Costa Rican fare, at Cactus or Gregorio’s, where you can get rice and beans with salad and barbecued fish, chicken or meat. Lola’s offers great margaritas, while Blu, across the street, has a spectacular wine list and makes a great steak, and Il Rustico creates delicious home-made pasta and pizza. A little further away, Playa Negra has a wonderful restaurant with Peruvian and vegetarian specialties. Ask us!
